Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists
For over 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has been at the forefront of bringing new approaches to treating patients who are in mental distress. We are internationally recognised as an expert in the health, charity, voluntary and private sectors and are proud to have developed and delivered ground-breaking mental health services that make a real difference to communities. Working with children, families and adults, our approach brings psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and systemic theory and practice together with other approaches, while seeking to understand the unconscious, as well as conscious, aspects of a person’s experience.
Parallel to providing a wide range of clinical services, the Trust trains over 2,000 students each year through our established Directorate of Education and Training. Our students are based in London at the Tavistock Centre and across the UK and Europe with our carefully selected partners. Where relevant, our courses are accredited and recognised by the main professional bodies in the mental health sector, including the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). Our creative and skilled clinical staff also deliver our teaching, ensuring that the education our students receive is relevant and indicative of services and models of care which respond to contemporary challenges.
The Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP) is the professional body for psychotherapists who have trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and is a Member Institution (MI) of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).
Qualification for entry into the BPC will be awarded on successful completion of one of the following trainings:
• Inter-cultural psychodynamic psychotherapy (D59I)
• Forensic psychodynamic psychotherapy (D59F)
• Psychological therapies with children, young people, and families (M34)
• Interdisciplinary training in adult psychotherapy (M1)
• Psychodynamic psychotherapy for child and adolescent psychiatrists (M14)
Previous graduates of the D59C Course: Psychodynamic psychotherapy with couples course are also welcome to join the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and the BPC Register.
