Writing for New Associations
New Associations is a tri-yearly magazine written for and by those interested in psychoanalytic thinking. It focuses on the application of psychoanalytic thinking to the social, cultural, and political world, rather than just to the consulting room.
New Associations is committed to involving a wide range of voices from our psychoanalytic and psychodynamic community. We are working hard for that representation in our Editorial Board and contributors.
Proposing a Piece
We are keen to hear from people interested in writing for New Associations. We welcome writing by people working in any psychoanalytic or psychodynamic tradition. If you have an idea for an article or review or someone you would like to interview, the Editors-in-Chief would be delighted to hear from you: noreen.giffney@bpc.org.uk or emmanuelle.smith@bpc.org.uk. If you are not a member of the BPC or have not written for publication before, that is no problem. We would encourage you to contact us to discuss your idea.
Article Content
- Articles for New Associations are usually either 1,000 or 2,000 words. The specific limit will be agreed between you and your editorial board contact. We respectfully ask contributors to keep to the agreed word limit. Submissions over the limit will be returned for editing or edited in-house.
- Authors will have space to make one or two main points, which need to be developed and illustrated using examples.
- References should be minimal and for brief quotations or statistics only and should follow the in-house style guidelines.
Clinical Material
Whilst very limited clinical material may be used to illustrate a wider argument, please keep it to a minimum. It is important to ensure patients are not identifiable and the focus remains on your own experience rather than that of your patient.
Accuracy
Your article will be proofread, but please ensure names are spelt correctly and any facts are accurate. By submitting your article, you agree that the content is correct to the best of your knowledge.
