Addiction – a CPD led by Conor McCormack
Book ticketsOrganised by:
Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy
Description
A talk exploring how addiction can be treated according to psychoanalytic principles.
A key lesson of psychoanalysis is that it’s impossible to obtain full satisfaction. All the same – people are still prepared to die trying.
Whether it’s drugs, booze, video games or cross fit: human beings have always had the capacity to enjoy their habits to excess.
This talk will elaborate a psychoanalytic metapsychology of addiction – a progressive alternative to the formulaic framework of standard addiction therapies.
The analyst doesn’t take things at face value. It’s seldom obvious whether addiction is the problem rather than a solution to a more fundamental malaise.
The talk will explore how addiction can be treated according to psychoanalytic principles.
The talk will be followed by a Q & A discussion.
