Dr. Aaron Balick on ‘The Digitally Mediated Self: How Social Media, Algorithms, and AI are Redefining Identity’

Dr. Aaron Balick is a psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. Aaron specialises in applying psychoanalytic ideas to contemporary culture, with a particular focus on the impact of technology on identity and relationships. His pioneering text, The Psychodynamics of Social Networking is widely regarded as a seminal text in its field.

In this talk Dr. Balick delves into the profound impact that digital technologies have on our sense of self. It explores how social media, algorithms, and AI are reshaping identity, amplifying differences, and increasing polarisation in ways that challenge social cohesion. This talk invites psychotherapists to consider the psychological and social implications of digital mediation, exploring how these forces impact the self and influence relationships in a hyper-connected world.

We would be pleased to see you either in person at the Hilt, Chandlers Ford (directions below) or on Zoom. Doors and Zoom open at 7.15pm and the meeting will formally start at 7.30pm, ending at 9pm.

Members attend free (annual subscription £70 for 8 events) or we charge £20 on the door. Discounts available for trainees.
