Description

In this scientific meeting, Professor Vincenzo Bonaminio will present his contemporary Winnicottian perspective on Theory and Technique. We hope to expand our thinking on Winnicott’s ideas and discuss his relevance for clinical practice today.

He will focus and present on Winnicott’s clinical practice and the theorizing associated with it; the concept of ‘transitional space’, the idea on holding and staying with the patient, the difference between regression and withdrawal and Winnicott’s revolutionary psychoanalytic stance in the analytic work. There will be an exploration of transitional phenomena as a way of locating internal and external objects and the influence on enabling engagement between analyst and patient to involve authentic feelings, including hate. The presenter will explore Winnicott’s view on the analyst’s bodily participation function, rather than the analyst only as a ‘psychic container’, and the two different analytic functions could hold for the patients. Moving forward there will be an evaluation on the use of interpretation as well as the use of transference and calibrating through it in the analytic room.
