Description
Transference and Countertransference
Theory and Practice
A workshop with David Smart
Sunday 12th May 2024
10am-1pm
David Smart will lead a workshop that explores:
- how understanding of transference/countertransference has evolved
- transference dynamics between therapist and client
- challenges posed in working with the transference/countertransference
David will draw on his study guide, The Kleinian Tradition for Psychotherapists and Counsellors (Routledge 2023). The morning will bring together theoretical and clinical insights from a range of 20th and 21st century practitioners.
Those attending will have opportunities to explore clinical experiences and reflect on what is being evoked, communicated and perhaps acted out.
This seminar will be of particular interest to training and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who wish to expand their capacity to work with transference and countertransference in work settings inside and outside the consulting room.
David Smart trained as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist after a first career in Special Educational Needs. He has worked in NHS settings and as a school counsellor. He led seminars for WPF Therapy for several years and has conducted CPD sessions for a range of training and clinical organisations. He works as a psychotherapist in private practice.
