Description
With Anne Alvarez & Graham Music
Working with clients who present as shut down, numb or undrawn can be extremely challenging. These clients can have limited emotional expression and verbal communication. There can be resistance and defensiveness towards the work and a challenge in developing trust and a strong therapeutic alliance. Holding patience, bearing frustration and working to enliven the client is key to this work as is the acknowledgement that the lack of engagement is rooted in early neglect.
Graham Music and Anne Alvarez will offer insights from their clinical work with such patients. The importance of differentiating early trauma from neglect will be key in how to approach the work as will considerations for technique. With an understanding of the aetiology of these states there will be a focus on countertransference, supervision as well as up to date embodied practices to support the work.
Graham and Anne will offer an extended Q&A throughout the day so there is plenty of time for discussion and thinking about the material together as a group.
