Anna Reali

I am an experienced psychodynamic therapist and supervisor, specialising in working in Higher Education, and with children, young people and their families. Issues I encounter in my daily practice are varied and include depression, stress and anxiety, self-esteem, parental separation, illness in the family and bereavement.

With many years of practising in schools, academies and university counselling services across London and Cambridge, I have developed a particular interest in interpersonal and relationship issues, life transitions, such as starting or leaving school, college and university, beginning a new job or moving to a new country; and a therapeutic approach that is sensitive to the experiences of culturally diverse groups.

Working from a psychodynamic perspective, I pay attention to what may be going on under the surface and to the ways past experiences can shape our current lives. Most importantly, I aim to develop a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and trusting.

As we go through different stages in our life we experience challenges and transitions, some of which we may struggle to understand and manage. Our development as individuals and the process of self-awareness that comes with it are far from linear.
Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a safe space in which to explore what is getting in the way, so that we can come up with options and a renewed sense of purpose and direction in our life.

Central to my therapeutic work with children is the use of play and art materials, as a tool to facilitate the expression of emotions and experiences that may otherwise remain unspoken or unprocessed.

As a qualified supervisor, I offer individual and group supervision to trainee and qualified therapists and other practitioners working in HE, charities and in the helping professions, such as teaching, student support, coaching and nursing.
I strive to work collaboratively and encouragingly, using my experience and intuition to support my supervisees as they develop as reflective practitioners. I currently supervise for the Cogwheel Trust in Cambridge.
