Richard Kelly

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist working in private practice as well as in an NHS Adult Complex Needs department. I have around ten years of experience in NHS mental health services, including inpatient units, child and adolescent (CAMHS) specialist community services, adult psychological therapy teams and crisis resolution community services. I have previously been involved in research and auditing on the effectiveness and outcomes of psychological therapies in collaboration with the Child Outcomes Research Consortium (CORC) and the Anna Freud Centre.

I trained in psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman Clinic. I am registered and accredited with the British Psychoanalytic Council and am a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists. I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and an Associate Member of the Institute of Group Analysis. I previously completed Foundation courses at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and Institute of Group Analysis.

I work privately with adults, mainly face-to-face in my consulting room in central Reading (RG1), though online sessions can be arranged where necessary.

I usually recommend having an initial consultation meeting of around 90 minutes. This consultation is a chance for me to hear about you and to begin to understand what has brought you to psychotherapy and what you hope to gain through the process. It will also give you a sense of what it is like for us to be together and whether a psychodynamic way of working is right for you.
