About Andrew Williams
Dr Andrew Williams has 20 years of experience of working in the NHS, latterly as a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Psychotherapy and Head of the Tavistock Clinic's Adult Psychotherapy Department. He has expertise in the psychotherapeutic treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, personality difficulties and addictions. Having worked at the Portman Clinic for 15 years, he is also skilled in providing help for persons who struggle with difficulties relating to their sexual orientation, problematic sexual behaviours, or the management of their anger. He is able to offer psychotherapy at a frequency of once weekly sessions up to five times a week psychoanalysis.
Dr Williams is able to offer specialist supervision to professionals working with highly complex patients, and those who present risks to themselves and others. He is also able to provide supervision to professionals working with persons who struggle with compulsive sexual behaviours and problems with anger/violence.
He is co-author of 'Assessing Risk: A Relational Approach' (Routledge) and Forensic Group Psychotherapy: The Portman Clinic Approach (Karnac).
