About Anna Burnham
I am trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, with a core training as a mental health nurse and have over 20 years experience of working with individuals who are struggling with their mental health.
I qualified as a psychotherapist 6 years ago and since then have undergone further training and study to ensure that I am responsive to clients' needs.
I offer both short term (dynamic interpersonal therapy) and long-term psychotherapy on either a weekly or twice weekly basis. These therapies are designed to help a person understand the underlying cause of their difficulties in the present day. Difficulties are often rooted in trauma, the result of which are tendencies in thought and behaviour that are intended to protect the self, but often may serve only to reinforce the difficulties. Examples include maintaining unhelpful relationships, habits and thought patterns. With therapy, a person can be helped to become aware of themselves, with compassion and understanding, before being supported to move on to more productive behaviours and relationships.
I am also trained in E.M.D.R. which is designed to help a client process and move on from traumatic memories, or to work on current phobias. I also have an interest in working with people with people who hear voices or experience unusual beliefs, by using a combination of the Maastricht approach and in exploring the underlying symbolic significance of these phenomena.
I offer therapy in a cosy and relaxing Shepherd's hut, attached to my home in the beautiful village of Saltaire in West Yorkshire.
I am currently available for new clients.
I look forward to hearing from you.
