Historic Fitness to Practise Data
The BPC understands that Registrants, MI’s and members of the public may be interested in how many complaints the BPC has received over the past years and how many complaints have been referred to the Practice Review Panel or Hearing Panel, and the relevant sanctions imposed.
With this in mind, and with a view to being transparent, the BPC has published our Fitness to Practise data below.
Fitness to Practise Complaints Received
The number of complaints received between 2011 and 2021 are as follows:
- 2011 – 12 (10 dismissed and 2 referred to a Hearing);
- 2012 – 8 (3 dismissed and 5 referred to a Hearing);
- 2013 – 9 (4 dismissed and 5 referred to a Hearing)
- 2014 – 9 (4 dismissed and 5 referred to a Hearing)
- 2015 – 5 (5 dismissed and none referred to a Hearing)
- 2016 – 8 (6 dismissed and 2 referred to Practice Review)
- 2017 – 5 (4 dismissed and 1 referred to a Hearing)
- 2018 – 6 (4 dismissed, 1 referred to Practice Review and 1 referred to a Hearing)
- 2019 – 6 (3 dismissed, 1 referred to Practice Review and 2 referred to a Hearing)
- 2020 – 8 (3 dismissed, 2 referred to Practice Review and 3 referred to a Hearing)
- 2021 – 6 (4 dismissed, 1 referred to Practice Review and 1 referred to a Hearing)
Fitness to Practise Sanctions imposed
The number and type of sanctions imposed by the Hearing Panel and Practice Review Panel between 2011 and 2021 are as follows:
- Letter of Advice – 4
- Letter of Advice & Warning – 3
- Admonishment – 6
- Supervision direction – 7
- Conditions order – 2
- Termination of registration – 1
Categories of complaints received
The categories of complaints received between 2015 and 2021 are as follows:
- 2015 – 5 Misconduct cases
- 2016 – 8 Misconduct cases
- 2017 – 5 Misconduct cases
- 2018 – 6 Misconduct cases
- 2019 – 5 Misconduct cases and 1 Decision of another Regulator
- 2020 – 6 Misconduct cases, 1 Conviction case and 1 Decision of another Regulator
- 2021 – 5 Misconduct cases and 1 Health case
[Misconduct cases include single event clinical matters and inappropriate conduct cases. Conviction means that a Registrant has received a Conviction. Decision of Another Regulator means that a Registrant has received an adverse decision from another Regulator, and Health means that concerns have been raised regarding a Registrant’s Health]
